Read this first — most people miss it
  • Decide where you’re going beforehandNot “so where do you want to go?” once you’re both in the car. She doesn’t want to navigate, she wants to come along. And if your plan falls through, you simply have a second one — that counts just as much.
  • She already decidedOtherwise she wouldn’t be getting in the car. You don’t have to win her over — you can only mess it up. That takes half the pressure off.
  • The car is the first roomShe’ll sit in it for half an hour before anything else begins. Passenger seat clear, nothing she has to move first. And you open the door: three seconds, and almost nobody does it anymore.
  • Bring more than you needBlanket, water, something to eat, something against the sun. None of it is romantic — but if it’s missing, the afternoon ends two hours early. And you do the carrying.
  • Think of two questions nobody asksNot "what do you do for a living". Something like: what did you dream of as a kid? One surprising question beats ten good answers — and you stop having to think of what to say.
  • Phone away before you set offSilent, face down, out of sight. Out there you have no reason to look at it — and one glance at the screen is the first thing she’ll tell her friend about.
  • Don’t put on an actStay who you are — just lead with your good sides. A role won’t hold up for a whole afternoon, and she notices sooner than you’d like.
  • What she expects but never saysThat you lead. Not dictate — decide. Asking “what do you want?” about every little thing hands her work instead of a lovely day.
